Post Blanking Custom Date Fields
Hey guys,

I have beating my head against this one for awhile. We have about 20,000 customers in our database. About 8000 of these have a bunch of garbage dates in the their Custom Date Fields. Across all 10 fields it is the same for every customer. Now we need to use one of these fields for a project and I can't figure out how to blank those fields in mass. I can reset them with a new date but can't set them to blank. I have tried: just a blank tab, 0,1, nul, null, -, and a few other quick things but I can't get it to go.

Anyone have any ideas?

So the answer is no? I can't blank a date field?

What happens when you change the field type from date, to text or check?

Then maybe a server restart, and go back in for a switch back to date?

I haven't tested this, but maybe it will clear it out?

The date, text, and check fields are actually separate fields that keep their values when they are turned off. In essence there are 30 fields that you can set but only 10 of these can be shown on your customer card.

We were originally using text fields for this information due to a misunderstanding. I can turn that field on and off with a server restart and the values remain. The only thing that is lost is the field name.

Ok. This is kinda lame. If the data is there, why limit us as users?

I know this may not be a real solution, but what about reimporting all the cards that you want blank with a ridiculous date, like 01/01/1800. That way it serves as a flag that "this date has not actually been entered"?

We have a membership program here. On the receipt I would like it to print:

You joined our membership program on: <Date>

where "You joined our membership program on:" is the label for the date field.

When the date field is blank nothing is printed, not even the label. So the field is only visible to members who have a date field. If I set everything to a dummy date i.e 1/1/1800 it would be printed on each receipt AND need to be set for each new customer.

You can blank the date field on each one of the customer cards by clicking the X in the calendar dropdown for the field. New customers start out with the date field blank. But I have ~8000 that need their date fields blanked.

Thank you for your thoughts TonyKartUSA. I appreciate the assistance.
